Skinner & T’witch would like to thank Stevie Connor from Blues and Roots Radio for his positive and thoughtful review of their new comical/satirical album, ‘Everybody’s Grotty’: 'a gem of a release'.

‘Folk, flamenco and theatre is where this album sits. Skinner and T'witch have built a solid reputation for social commentary and observations through their music. They are prolific writers and performers and have come up with a gem of a release, ably showcasing the satirical side of their songwriting on '’Everybody's Grotty’'.

Steve Skinner worked as a songwriter in touring music theatre companies. He is a wonderful guitarist and has studied flamenco techniques recently. He brings music hall traditions and flamenco rhythms to their musical style. Sandra Twitchett (T'witch) brings a touch of classical singing, with operatic undertones. She sang in choirs for years, as well as performing folk rock. Their voices blend very well as a duo, harmonizing extremely well.

They self produced this album, having gone through an amazing repertoire of songs they had written over a period of years. They released a great folk album in 2017, '’The Fools Journey'’. This album follows that and slants more to the vaudevillian way of presentation. There are lots of tongue in cheek humour and witticisms, as well as pokes at celebrities, as in the title track 'Everybody's Grotty', and a clever swing at bankers and the rich avoiding taxes in '’Offshore’'. There are more serious issues tackled, like the current refugee situation in Europe in '’Too Many Feet’', and a James Bond style offering in '’The Ageing Special Agent'’, presenting wonderful and often funny observations.

There is a large range of styles on this album, and although it shouldn't work it actually does, extremely well. There is something fresh about a recording that blends varying styles in this way. Top marks for song placement too.

A hard working duo with tours of Australia and North America planned for 2019, watch out for Skinner and T'witch. You will be thoroughly entertained, if this release is anything to go by.’ Stevie Connor, Blues and Roots Radio www.BluesandRootsRadio.com
